SAVE ST NECTANS GLEN
PRESS RELEASE
A campaign to keep one of the most sacred sites in the UK open to public in Cornwall is running out of time.
St Nectan’s Glen and Waterfall near Tintagel attracts thousands of visitors every year. They come to see the 60ft waterfall and ancient hermitage of St Nectan. It’s reputed to be in the top ten of the most spiritual sites in the country.
At present people can access the waterfall through tea gardens belonging to the land owner. But now the whole site is up for sale, with a six week deadline for final bids. There’s concern a new owner could forbid the public from access to the shrine and waterfall.
Now a group special interest group, the ‘Friends’ of St. Nectan’s Glen, made up of friends trustees and benefactors has been set up to try and collectively buy the land and tend to site.
Tor Webster who initiated the campaign says “It’s vital the waterfall is preserved in pristine condition and that the site is kept as a sacred place of pilgrimage for all to enjoy.”
Miller Commercial is the selling agent for the owner. They’ve put it on the market at a guide price of £800,000. Head of Miller Commercial’s Business Transfer, Russell Weetch says “There is a great opportunity here to acquire a genuine piece of Cornish heritage. Because of the individual nature of the property Miller Commercial is marketing the St Nectan’s Glen by way of informal tender, inviting final offers by Wednesday 1st June.”
For further information contact Russell Weetch at Miller Commercial on 01872 247005

St Nectans Glen

In 500AD St Nectan built a small sanctuary on what was an ancient sacred site beside a river, just above a beautiful waterfall. This is the only one in the world like it due to the formation that nature and time has provided. Pilgrims will discover the hidden magic of St Nectan’s Glen in an exceptionally stunning valley near the North Cornwall coastline just outside of the town of Tintagel, legendary birthplace of King Arthur. Legend has it that the brave Knights of the King Arthur’s Round Table went here to be anointed before and after their search for the holy grail. Due to archaeological evidence it has been a sacred place for millennia such as a nearby Bronze Age carving of the famous Labyrinth on the adjoining property. Today the Glen is still a place of spiritual pilgrimage from people all over the world of all faiths and it is the hope and the firm intent that it remains a sacred pilgrimage site and retreat for future generations.

Document species.

Has anyone listed the plants, ferns,  mosses ,lichens , insects etc around the waterfall and beyond. Sometimes the smallest species saves a site. Even a variety would. I know a site that was saved because it was the last nesting place for herons on that section of river. Concentrate on native species, listing plants and trees, however mundane. The waterfall and beyond are good starting points, there has to be something interesting attracted to that oxygen rich water, newts, frogs etc. Last…
